I am contacting you with an opportunity for some of your 6th, 7th & 8th grade homeschoolers. For the last twelve years, Drive Smart Evergreen / Conifer, a local non-profit organization, has run a program focusing on transportation safety called "Buckle Bear." The program depends on middle school age kids to assist a Drive Smart representative in presenting information to young child passengers. Up until now, this program has only been active in the mountain area preschools and K-elementary schools. Last year, after the program received the Jefferson County Public Health Champion of the Year Award, we have decided to expand the program to encompass Jefferson County Headstart Centers.
Instead of using frontrange public middle school students, I would like to extend this valuable opportunity to the middle-school homeschool community. I would be happy to answer any questions you might have concerning the nature of the program, or how your homeschool community may become involved. Please keep in mind that this service opportunity provides many benefits. It allows students to log community service hours for future resumes, gain experience as a volunteer and mentor, and build leadership skills with confidence. Additional benefits include reinforcing social responsibility, and helping students prioritize safety messages, indirectly preparing them for safe driving.
I hope we can work together to create this educational activity / opportunity for your group. I look forward to a partnership that will further invest in the students, as well as the community.
